About Me:

Nell and Elisabeth

Welcome!

My name is Elisabeth Oliver. I have started this blog in hopes to share my experience throughout my time in Ecology Lab. My ultimate goal would be able to show my understanding of Ecology and help others understand as well.

Background:

A little information about me that I am a biology pre-professional major with the hopes of one day becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. I grew up with a mother that look to a more homeopathic medicine path rather than prescriptions, while the rest of my family is a firm believer of westernized medicine. From my personal experience, both have their benefits and consequences, which lead me to Osteopathic Medicine. Another factor of my decision to be a doctor is that I simply enjoy helping people.
I’m originally from Nashville but decided to come to Chattanooga for school. I love to hike and kayak, so coming to Chattanooga had its benefits other than just academic. I enjoy taking my dogs on hikes as well. I have a pit bull and boxer mix named Nell and a dachshund and lab mix named Pita. They are both very sweet dogs, but Nell is the type to cuddle with strangers while pita is the type to bite.

I also enjoy cooking. I love to make dinner for friends and family. I do believe that food brings people together, and that is one of the reasons I enjoy cooking.

Importance of Ecology

People should care about ecology because it is identifying and understanding the world interactions on different levels. Humans are part of the interaction being studied. Ecology gives a greater understanding of benefits and consequences that humans have seen in the past and will see in the future. However, ecology also possesses purpose past that just of humanity. I believe that understand ecology gives an individual a great appreciation for the world and its’ organisms.

Interest in Ecology

I am interested in Ecology because nature fascinates me. I believe that the fact that so many species co-exist on this earth is astonishing, and the fact that every little action and interaction has a cause and effect. I also think that understanding ecology leads to a better understanding of how to care for our environment. I learned last year about how the Earth was about to hit capacity relative to the average way of life. This means that resources will run out if something is not changed. I want to know more about what is happening and the causes that lead to this.

Goals for the Blog

I believe that my blog will be different than other, based on the fact that I am really interested in relating with my audience. I want to start every blog post with a relatable situation so that the audience can already have a sense of relevance in the back of their minds as they read. I think it is extremely important to have relatable topics or the audience can get confused. This relatable situation will also help the audience remember topics better by seeing a broader picture. I will also be using my own photograph throughout the blog post. I believe that it will lead to a sense of connection. I hope to also instill the idea if I can do it, the reader can do it too.
